Vapour permeability testing

Vapour permeability is measured using the Mocon and Lyssy methods

Mocon – vapour permeability measurement

  • Dynamic test
  • Measurement in accordance with ASTM 6701-01
  • Measurement at a constant 37.8 °C temperature
  • Percentage change of moisture content of the measured sample compared to the standard value
  • The device measures vapour permeability (g/m2 x 24 h).
Lyssy – vapour permeability measurement

  • Static test
  • Measurement in accordance with ISO 15106-1
  • Measurement at a constant 38 °C temperature
  • The device records the time necessary to increase the moisture content from 9.9 % to 10.1 %.
  • The device measures vapour permeability (g/m2 x 24 h) based on previous calibration.

 

TESTS

The products are subjected to tests of the following properties:

  • Dimensions
    • Role width and diameter are measured in accordance with PN 4524/96 (manufacturer’s internal standard).
  • Tensile strength at break, elongation at break, stress at elongation
    • In accordance with ČSN EN ISO 527-1 and ČSN EN ISO 527-3; tensile testing machine jaw travel speed: 100 mm.min-1, test specimen: type 2.
    • In accordance with ASTM D 882.
  • Basis weight
    • In accordance with ČSN EN ISO 2286-2. or In accordance ASTM E 252.
  • Vapour permeability
    • In accordance with ČSN EN ISO 15106-1, LYSSY apparatus.
    • In accordance with WSP 70.6 part 2, LYSSY apparatus .
    • In accordance with WSP 70.4, Mocon apparatus .
  • Resistance to water column
    • In accordance with ČSN EN 20811.
  • Dimensional fastnes
    • In accordance with ČSN EN ISO 11501, 60 °C/1 h., test specimen: 100 x 100 mm.
  • Friction coefficient – KKT (NW/metal)
    • In accordance with ČSN EN ISO 8295.
  • Ionisation level
    • In accordance with PN 4525/95 (manufacturer’s internal standard).
  • Peel effect (lamination fastness)
    • In accordance with WSP 401.0 (05).
